Stuff I Liked From 2010

Inspired by Gareth Kay, and as a follow up to my predictions for 2011, here is a look back at some of my favorite things from 2010.

iPhone app: TwitterIt’s not the most advanced app around, and certainly not the first Twitter app, but it is the official one and it works really well. It was a great movie by Twitter to acquire a very popular app and make it the official one, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

Twitter iPhone App

iPad app: flipboard – I still don’t own an iPad and probably won’t for some time. But if anything is going to make me buy one it’s this app. Flipboard pulls all the content from your social graph into an easy to consume “magazine.”

Website: We’re all fans – what better way to celebrate musicians and their fans?

We're All Fans

Gadget: Xbox KinectRadically re-imagining the way we play video games. It’s incredible and yet still primitive. But it shows the way that wind is blowing.

Meme: Bed Intruder – What can I say about this that hasn’t already been said?

…and the remix:

New TV show: The Walking Dead – After the first episode AMC ordered a full season for next year. That’s how good it is.

Movie: Its a three-way tie between The Social Network, Inception, and Black Swan

Is blogging dead?

Much like the old adage about not asking a woman if she’s pregnant until you actually see a baby coming out of her, I’m hesitant to pronounce anything dead until I see its cold dead body. But blogging has certainly changed. Some might say it’s evolved, others say it degenerated.

An Open Letter to the Youth of America (from Matt Shaw):

My friend Matt Shaw gives today’s young people a bit of advice on social media and tact.

Dear young people,

We need to talk. See, I don’t know how many of us are really listening to you, but I am. I have been for a while. I wanted to let you know that, because I’m not sure you really, truly knew that I was listening. But I am. I can hear you.

I’m not going to comment on the quality of the things that I hear. It’s unfair for us adult types to tell you on the one hand to live your early years with abandon while you can get away with it, and on the other hand tell you that you all sound like a clutch of raving fools. We can’t have one without the other. I get it. Keep saying what you’re saying, keep sharing what you’re sharing, keep doing what you’re doing. I’m not going to stop you.

But I want you to know something. I can hear you.

Blogging about #CleanWater for #BAD10

Today is Blog Action Day 2010, which is focused on clean water.  Clean water, or rather lack thereof is a major problem. One that rarely gets talked about in the mainstream media. So really, how bad is it?
