If you don’t know me—

Don’t ask me to connect on LinkedIn. I get that you want to grow your network, or sell me some new chotchke that your company just developed. I get it. I can see the value for you. But why do I want to open up my newsfeed to your spam, or my network to your requests for introductions?

If you want to talk to me, send me a message. Or tweet at me. Or post a comment on my blog. I’m pretty easy to find. I’m the only “Ezra Englebardt” in the world, if you try hard enough you could probably find my home address on one of the various social sites I post to regularly (but please don’t come to my house).

But blindly adding me on LinkedIn, when you for a company like AdSalesForYou or some other spam sounding company is NEVER going to happen. I’m more likely to help a deposed Nigerian prince get his family’s fortune back.

2011 in Review.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 3,400 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 57 trips to carry that many people.

Stuff I Liked From 2010

Inspired by Gareth Kay, and as a follow up to my predictions for 2011, here is a look back at some of my favorite things from 2010.

iPhone app: TwitterIt’s not the most advanced app around, and certainly not the first Twitter app, but it is the official one and it works really well. It was a great movie by Twitter to acquire a very popular app and make it the official one, rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

Twitter iPhone App

iPad app: flipboard – I still don’t own an iPad and probably won’t for some time. But if anything is going to make me buy one it’s this app. Flipboard pulls all the content from your social graph into an easy to consume “magazine.”

Website: We’re all fans – what better way to celebrate musicians and their fans?

We're All Fans

Gadget: Xbox KinectRadically re-imagining the way we play video games. It’s incredible and yet still primitive. But it shows the way that wind is blowing.

Meme: Bed Intruder – What can I say about this that hasn’t already been said?

…and the remix:

New TV show: The Walking Dead – After the first episode AMC ordered a full season for next year. That’s how good it is.

Movie: Its a three-way tie between The Social Network, Inception, and Black Swan

Is blogging dead?

Much like the old adage about not asking a woman if she’s pregnant until you actually see a baby coming out of her, I’m hesitant to pronounce anything dead until I see its cold dead body. But blogging has certainly changed. Some might say it’s evolved, others say it degenerated.

How McDonald’s Monopoly is Like the Prisoner’s Dilemma.

When I was younger I used to love the McDonald’s Monopoly game (truth be told, I also used to love McDonald’s).  It was a great added reward for doing something I already liked doing. Not to mention there was a chance you could win all sorts of great prizes.

Unfortunately I never won anything. Even when I cheated.

Is Facebook Places Game-Changing?

Last night Facebook launched Places, their location-based service that let’s you check-in to real life locations and tell all your friends. It also lets you tag your friends in the check-in just as you can tag them in a photo or in a status update.

Thinking about getting back into blogging after a 3-4 year haitus.  If I do, this will be where I do it.
